DHAKA, May 6, 2025 (BSS) - The chamber court of the Supreme Court today stayed the bail granted by the High Court to former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case.

Justice Md Rezaul Haque, chamber judge of the Appellate Division, passed the order after hearing an appeal moved by the state against the High Court’s decision to grant Chinmoy bail.

The bail will remain stayed until the state files a leave-to-appeal petition before the Appellate Division.

Additional Attorney Generals Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan and Barrister Aneek R Haque moved for the state while lawyers MK Rahman, ZI Khan Panna, Anup Kumar Saha, Bivash Chandra Biswas, and Prahlad Debnath appeared for Chinmoy during the hearing.

On April 30, the HC bench comprising Justice Md Atowar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza granted bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who has been in jail since November 26 last year.

The state counsel moved to the chamber court seeking a stay to the bail on that day.

A sedition case was filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das and 18 others on October 31 last year in Chattogram for dishonoring the national flag. Earlier, on October 25, a big rally of the Hindu communities was held there.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25 while he was going to Chattogram after attending another mammoth public meeting of the Hindu community in Rangpur on November 22 last year.

He was taken to Chattogram and produced before the court on November 26 but the court rejected his bail petition and ordered to send him to jail. As a result, the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das locked into violent clashes with the law enforcers and the lawyers in and around the Chattogram Court.

During the clash, advocate Saiful Islam Alif was chopped to death by a group of miscreants outside the court area.
