DHAKA, May 7, 2025(BSS) - The deposition against former Juba League leader Ismail Chowdhury Samrat and his accomplice Enamul Haque Arman began today at a court here today in connection with a drug case lodged with Ramna Thana.

The deposition started against the duo in the court of Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Saifur Rahman Majumder with recording of the statement of the Investigation Office (IO) of the case and former Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of Rab-1 Abdul Khaleque.

Earlier on January 30, the same court framed charges against Samrat and Arman and fixed the date for beginning the trial of the case on May 7.

According to the court sources, a team of RAB-1 arrested Samrat and Arman from Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district in the morning of October 6 in 2019 and seized huge foreign liquor, pistol and skin of a rare animal from Samrat's Kakrail office in the afternoon.

A mobile court in a summary trial awarded six-month jail to Samrat for keeping the skin of forest animal illegally and ordered to send him to jail. On October 7, the then DAD of RAB-1 Abdul Khaleque filed a case with Ramna Thana for keeping liquor and arms with their positions.

Sub-Inspector of RAB-1 Shekhar Chandra Maillik submitted charge sheet against Samrat and Arman on November 6 in 2020 after the detailed investigating of the arms case.

Later, Inspector Abdul Halim of RAB-1 submitted charge sheet against both of them to the court in drug case on December 9 in that year.
