BGB seizes 3,750 kgs of chemical-tainted mangoes in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, May 7, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a truck carrying 3,750 kilograms of chemically treated unripe mangoes, worth Tk 7.5 lakh from Puraton Satkhira area during a special operation on last night (May 6).

Acting on a tip-off, a BGB-33 Battalion team led by Assistant Director Brigadier Abdullah Al Masum conducted the operation targeting mango consignments being transported to Dhaka and other parts of the country.

Truck driver Swapon Mia, 34, son of Gopal Chandra Das of Sundarpur village in Jashore's Monirampur upazila was arrested during the raid.

Besides, the team seized two trucks; one was found carrying uncontaminated mangoes while the other contained chemically adulterated fruit.

The contaminated consignment and its driver were brought before a mobile court, where Executive Magistrate Pronoy Biswas imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 on the driver.

Following the payment of the fine, the driver was released along with the truck. 

The seized mangoes were destroyed on-site under court supervision by crushing them under the vehicle's wheels.
