MUNSHIGANJ, May 7, 2025 (BSS - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the driver of the 'Barishal Express' bus over an incident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj, where the driver continued to operate the bus even after its roof was blown off in an accident.

RAB arrested the accused driver from the Dhaleshwari toll plaza under South Keraniganj Police Station in Dhaka at 9pm last night.

The driver was identified as Shahidul Sheikh, 30, son of Fazlu Sheikh from Gaylakandi village in Mokshedpur upazila of Gopalganj district.

RAB-10 Assistant Director (Media), Shamim Hasan Sardar said that the arrested driver has been handed over to Hasara Highway Police Station for legal action.

Earlier, the incident occurred on April 17, when the Barishal Express collided with a covered van and a private car, causing the bus roof to be blown off.

Despite the severe damage and with around 20 passengers injured, Shahidul Sheikh continued to drive the roofless bus for nearly 5 kilometers, drawing widespread outrage.

Following the incident, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has temporarily suspended the bus's registration pending further investigation.
