DHAKA, May 8, 2025(BSS)-The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file separate cases against former lawmaker from Noakhali-3 constituency Mamunur Rashid Kiron and his wife Jesmin Akhter for acquiring wealth beyond their known source of income.
Md Akter-ul-Islam, Deputy Director (DD) of the Public Relations Department of the anti-graft body today disclosed the information to the newsmen at a media briefing in the ACC headquarters here.
According to the ACC sources, Mamunur Rashid as a public servant has acquired Taka 49,54,34,996 through corruption and possessed it while he was a parliament member from Noakhali-3(Begumganj) constituency. He also made suspicious transactions of Taka 211,56,53,241 against his business institutions through 22 bank accounts.
The ACC has decided to lodge a case against him in this regard under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004, sub sections 2 and 3 under section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act-2012 and section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947.
On the other hand, his wife Jesmin Akhter has earned and possessed wealth worth about Taka 1,83,21,546 through her husband's influence which is contrary to her known source of income. The commission also decided to lodge another case against her under section 27(1) of the ACC Act-2004, under section 5(2) of the Corruption Prevention Act-1947 and section 109 of Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).
The concerned officials of the ACC submitted the primary investigation report to the commission headquarters and will lodge cases after getting the approval on it.
