Ex-lawmaker Zafor Alam sent to jail

DHAKA, May 09, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent former lawmaker from Cox's Bazar-1 constituency Zafor Alam, 69, to jail after end of his remand in Juba Dal leader Shamim murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman passed the order as police produced him before the court after end of his four-day remand in the case.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Zafor Alam from the city's Dhanmandi area on April 27 last.

Shamim was killed in a clash between BNP and Awami League supporters in the capital on October 28, 2023 during BNP’s grand rally.

According to the FIR of the case, AL supporters allegedly with the support of the police attacked the BNP rally at Naya Paltan, killing Jubo Dal leader Shamim on the spot.

The case was filed with Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
