DHAKA, May 9, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 101 crore during anti-smuggling drives across the country, including border areas, in April.

The force also detained 143 suspected smugglers, along with several hundred Bangladeshi and a number of Indian nationals for illegal border crossings. Legal action has been taken against all detainees, according to a BGB press release today.

A large number of foreign nationals attempting to enter Bangladesh were also turned back, including hundreds of Myanmar citizens who tried to cross the border illegally, said the press release.

Among the seized items were gold, silver, saris, three-piece suits, blankets, and various types of clothing.

BGB also confiscated large quantities of cosmetics, imitation jewellery, fireworks, mobile phones and accessories, sunglasses, and a range of consumer goods.

Agricultural and food items such as betel nuts, sugar, fertilizer, coal, edible oil, fruits, onions, garlic, cumin, dried fish, shrimp fry, coffee, chocolates, and fuchka were also recovered during the drives.

Additionally, the force seized a significant number of vehicles including trucks, pickups, private cars, motorcycles, boats, and easy bikes. Livestock such as cows and buffaloes were also rescued.

Weapons recovered during the operations included firearms like rifles and locally made guns, as well as explosives such as crude and petrol bombs.

In its ongoing anti-narcotics campaign, BGB seized a wide variety of drugs including Yaba tablets, heroin, cocaine, Phensedyl, foreign and local liquor, canned beer, marijuana, and other intoxicating tablets and syrups.
