FARIDPUR, May 10, 2025(BSS) - Train service on three routes of the southern part of the country resumed after 15 hours of derailment at Bhanga Junction at about 11:30am today.

The services were suspended as two coaches of Khulna bound Jahanabad Express derailed near Bhanga Junction at about 9pm last night. These three routes are- Dhaka-Khulna, Dhaka-Benapole and Dhaka-Rajbari.

The derailment occurred at about 9.05 pm on Friday due to wrong signaling by a point man of the station, railway sources said.

The passengers of the train suffered a lot due to the derailment but no casualty was reported.

Two relief trains from Ishardi and Khulna and a crane reached the spot in the morning and lifted the derailed coaches under the supervision of senior railway officers around 11:30 am.

The Divisional Railway Manager of Pakshi zone Hasina Khatun said that the derailment occurred due to the mistake made by Point Man Nazrul and he has already been suspended for this reason.

He changed the signal without taking permission from the higher authorities, Hasina Khatun said, adding that a three-member inquiry committee has been formed over this.

Sumon Baroi, Assistant Station Master of Bhanga Railway Junction, told BSS that the Khulna bound Jahanabad Express derailed from the track just after leaving the junction and as a result, the front engine of the train and the luggage van toppled on other tracks. More than 600 passengers and railway staff were in the train during the derailment, Sumon said, adding that the train communication on this route resumed at the earliest.
