DHAKA, May 10, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today said imposing a ban on any political party does not solve all problems.

"If the rule of law is ensured, people will decide who is acceptable and who should be banned. Those who want to ban Awami League today can later raise the demand to ban BNP too," he said while addressing a rally here.

The 12-party alliance organized the rally at the Jatiya Press Club here demanding removal of obstacles to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's return to his homeland and ensuring his maximum security.

Gayeshwar said the Muslim League was the main architect of the creation of Pakistan but today their existence cannot be found.

"JSD was also a big party. Today it is divided into several factions. UPP led by Bhasani-Kazi Jafar has also disappeared. Those who take a stand against the people have already disappeared," he said.

This senior BNP leader said Jamaat-e-Islami is still a banned party as the party has not regained its registration yet.

"They have not regained their registration. Even then, the government is giving them importance. How was this Jamaat banned? Why should we demand that the Awami League be banned? Who is moving the hammer of this interim government today?" he questioned.

Regarding former President Abdul Hamid's departure, Gayeshwar said, "Hamid Saheb has left…A two-time president of the country. No organization knows that he is leaving…When he crossed the immigration, the government does not know, this is not credible. He cannot go out without the government's consent."

Regarding Tarique Rahman's return to the country, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, "The man who united the country even while staying abroad, led the anti-fascist Hasina movement, and worked to ensure the right to vote, today the nation wants to know where the obstacle to his return to his homeland is?"

Presided over by 12-party alliance Chief and Jatiya Party Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, the rally was attended by alliance spokesperson and Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim, Alliance Coordinator and Bangladesh National Party Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh Secretary General Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram and leaders of various alliances.
