3 Chandni Chowk traders remanded for attempting to kill DU students

DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today placed three traders of the city’s Chandni Chowk on one-day remand in a case lodged for assaulting and attempting to kill two students of Dhaka University for protesting eve-teasing at the market.
 
The three remanded accused are - Nazrul Islam Milon, Md Chunnu Miah and Nazmul. 
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza passed the order as police produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-day remand each.
 
DU students Mohammad Sahedul Islam and Ayejur went to a shop at the Chandni Chowk market in the New Market area at around 8 pm on May 26. A girl was bargaining at the shop at the time. They saw that the shop staff were teasing and abusing the girl for bargaining. The two students protested the shop staff’s behaviour. The shop owners and staff then started beating the two students indiscriminately.
 
Mohammad Sahedul Islam later filed the case with the New Market Police Station.
