DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) – Turkish embassy in Dhaka today celebrated ‘Turkish Cuisine Week’ with a special event showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Türkiye through live cooking and tasting sessions.
The programme, held at the residence of Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Sen, featured an array of traditional dishes prepared and presented to guests, including renowned chefs from some of Dhaka’s leading five star international chain hotels.
Ambassador Sen and his spouse, Juhal Şen, played host to the event, which highlighted the cultural and gastronomic depth of Turkish cuisine.
“I enjoy cooking. It’s like meditation for me,” said Juhal Sen, who prepared several dishes on-site, engaging directly with professional chefs and visitors in a hands-on demonstration of Türkiye’s classic culinary practices.
Turkish Cuisine Week, observed annually from May 21 to 27, celebrates the culinary traditions of Türkiye both at home and abroad.
This year’s theme, “Classic Dishes,” focuses on traditional, healthy, and sustainable recipes that have been passed down through generations and remain central to Turkish food culture.
According to the Embassy, the event aimed to promote greater intercultural understanding by offering an authentic taste of Anatolia—where Türkiye’s culinary roots were shaped by the fertile soil and centuries of diverse civilizations.
Despite the global popularity of Turkish food, many traditional recipes remain little known or practiced outside Turkiye.
This year’s celebration invites a rediscovery of these dishes, emphasizing their historical significance and relevance in today’s health-conscious and sustainability-driven world.
“The Classic Dishes reflect the naturalness, rich flavors, and unique preservation techniques of Turkish cuisine,” said a statement from the Embassy.
“Their simplicity and authenticity tell a story of centuries-old traditions, embodying a culinary legacy that continues to resonate globally.”
The event in Dhaka was part of a series of celebrations held worldwide during Turkish Cuisine Week, as Türkiye seeks to share its rich gastronomic culture with international audiences and reinforce its universal value.
