CHATTOGRAM, May 28, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested Shawkat Alam Shawkat, 65, Chairman of Farhadabad Union Parishad in Hathazari upazila.

He is a former member of the banned organization Awami League's Chattogram North district unit and former president of Awami Swechchhasebak League Chattogram North district.

Hathazari Model Police Station OC Abu Kawsar Mahmud Hossain confirmed that he was arrested from the Farhadabad Union area of the upazila on Tuesday evening.  Shawkat Alam Shawkat is the son of the late Mofizur Rahman of Himmat Muhuri house in Ward No. 6 of Farhadabad UP.

Based on secret information, a team of Hathazari thana police led by Sub-Inspector Rupan Nath detained the AL leader. He is an accused in several cases including an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement, from the road in the mentioned area.

Hathazari Police Station OC Abu Kawsar Mahmud Hossain said that there are several cases against UP Chairman Shawkat Alam in the police station. Legal action is being taken against him after his arrest and he will be handed over to the court today.
