DHAKA, Aug 4, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member and head of the party's Consensus Commission delegation Salahuddin Ahmed today said the BNP is ready to sign the July Charter at any time and insisted that everything must be done through elected representatives.

He made the remarks during an informal exchange of views with journalists at his residence in Gulshan.

Regarding the July Charter, meetings with the Consensus Commission, and the announcement of the July Declaration, Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that 19 basic issues from the six reform commissions were discussed in the Consensus Commission.

Of these 19, the BNP gave its consent to seven and agreed in principle on the remaining 12, he said.

He noted that the draft of the July National Charter has been sent to all political parties, and the BNP responded with some amendments on July 30.

Addressing allegations of non-cooperation by the BNP in implementing the July Charter, Salahuddin said the party has extended maximum cooperation in this regard.

He urged all parties to maintain anti-fascist unity.

On the July Declaration, Salahuddin said it holds both historical and political significance.

According to high-level BNP sources, three BNP leaders are expected to attend a government event scheduled to be held at Manik Mia Avenue on Tuesday (August 5). Two more members of the Standing Committee, led by party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, are likely to attend the event.
