DHAKA, Aug 4, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on the former mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC, in its plea, stated that it has received allegations against Chowdhury for concealing wealth information in his election affidavit, as well as involvement in tender manipulation and extortion.

"He may try to flee the country to evade justice and a travel ban should be imposed on him immediately," the plea added.

Meanwhile, the same court today imposed a travel ban on former Cumilla-4 lawmaker Md Abul Kalam Azad, his wife, Sadia Saba, former joint secretary of the law ministry Bikash Kumar Saha and his wife Lipika Bhadra.

The court came up with the orders, allowing separate pleas of the ACC.
