ACC sues ex-MP Nadvi, 15 others over IIUC fund embezzlement

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 30, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against 16 individuals, including former MP Abu Reza Mohammad Nezamuddin Nadvi for allegedly embezzling about Tk 12.8 crore from the International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC) Trust.

ACC Chattogram Deputy Director Subel Ahmed confirmed that the case was lodged by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Komal Chakraborty today.

Others accused in the case include former IIUC vice-chancellor Prof Anwarul Azim Arif, former trustee Prof Dr. Kazi Din Mohammad, Prof Dr. Mohammad Saleh Zahur, Dr. Engineer Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury, Nadvi's wife Rizia Sultana, Mohammad Khaled Mahmud, Prof Dr. Md. Fasiul Alam, Prof Md. Abdur Rahim, Dr. Md. Sh
amsuzzaman, Mohammad Badiul Alam, Prof Dr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Muhammad Shafiur Rahman, Prof Dr. Mahi Uddin, Prof Afzal Ahmed and Dr. Mozaffar Hossain Nadvi.

ACC Deputy Director Subel Ahmed added that additional individuals found involved during the investigation may also face charges.

The ACC statement said the accused allegedly colluded between March 6, 2021, and July 31, 2024, to embezzle Tk 12.79 crore from the trust, which is a non-profit organization providing scholarships, supporting underprivileged students, promoting Islamic research, and carrying out social welfare activities.

According to the investigation, funds meant for social welfare were misappropriated for personal gain, violating the trust's rules and regulations. 

The probe also revealed that although the IIUC Trust bought a plot in Agrabad in 2005 and constructed the 15-storey IIUC Tower with assistance from the Islamic Development Bank, some trust members, who were supposed to serve voluntarily, unlawfully received honorariums, bonuses, and other financial benefits.

The ACC said the case was filed based on substantial evidence collected during the investigation.
