Over 51,000 vehicles cross Jamuna Bridge, toll collection hits Tk 35m

SIRAJGANJ, March 19, 2026 (BSS) - More than 51,000 vehicles have crossed the Jamuna Bridge on the third day of Eid travel, generating over Taka 35 million in toll revenue. 

The toll was collected through both cash and online payments over a 24-hour period ending on Wednesday midnight.

Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Maintenance and Operation Division, Syed Riaz Uddin, confirmed the information this morning. He said a total of 51,584 vehicles used the bridge, resulting in toll collections amounting to Taka 3,51,82,600. Of this, Taka 3,43,11,900 was collected in cash while Taka 8,70,700 was collected online.

He further stated that at the east toll plaza, 32,840 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating Taka 1,97,10,650 in tolls. On the other hand, 18,744 vehicles crossed through the west toll plaza, contributing Taka 1,54,71,950 in toll revenue.

Riaz Uddin said that since the beginning of Eid travel, traffic on the bridge has increased to two to two-and-a-half times the normal level. To manage the additional pressure, two extra toll booths have been installed at each end of the bridge, increasing the total number of booths from 14 to 18.
