Dhaka district administration provides Tk 15,000 each to Keraniganj fire injured

DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka district administration has provided financial assistance of Taka 15,000 each to two people injured in a devastating fire at a gas lighter manufacturing factory at Kadamtali Golchattar in Keraniganj.

The injured — Jisan and Asif Molla — are currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital.

Following instructions from Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim, Keraniganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Omar Faruk handed over the financial assistance to the victims at the hospital today, Dhaka District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Saifullah Majumdar confirmed the matter to BSS.

He said Taka 15,000 each had been provided to the two injured persons in the fire incident. So far, six people have died in the incident. While the identities of two victims have been initially confirmed, DNA tests will be required to identify the remaining bodies, according to hospital authorities.

After confirmation of identities, the families of the deceased will receive Taka 25,000 each as humanitarian assistance.

The fire broke out at the factory at around 1:10 pm on April 4. Seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the blaze under control at around 2:30 pm.
