
DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted coordinated eviction drives across the capital on Sunday, resulting in fines totaling Taka 3.33 lakh and jail sentences for nine individuals of varying terms.
The day-long drive targeted illegal occupation of footpath and roads, removal of unauthorized shop and structures, seizure of goods, and legal action against violators.
According to Traffic Lalbagh Division sources, operations in Kotwali Traffic Zone areas including North South Road, Bangshal, and Naya Bazar led to Taka 17,000 in fines, arrest of three individuals, and seizure of goods.
Cases were filed under the Road Transport Act-2018, and the arrested individuals are being sent to court.
In the Traffic Wari Division, eviction drives in Jurain and Shyampur areas under Jatrabari Zone removed illegal roadside establishments.
Eleven traders were fined a total of Taka 47,500, while others were warned.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Ramna Division carried out drives from New Market crossing to Dhaka College, freeing footpaths from illegal occupation.
Authorities filed 52 video cases and 15 instant cases against illegally parked motorcycles and imposed Taka 82,000 in fines through mobile courts.
In Mirpur's Shah Ali area, 17 shops were fined Taka 80,000, while in Motijheel Division, operations from Malibagh Railgate to Rampura Bridge resulted in one arrest and Taka 67,000 in fines.
The Traffic Tejgaon Division conducted drives around Agargaon IDB Bhaban and Election Commission premises, fining six shops Taka 14,000 and removing illegally placed goods.
In Gulshan, four shops near Mohakhali Aarong and Gulshan-2 were fined Taka 20,500 for illegal footpath occupation.
Additionally, in Uttara Division, five individuals were arrested and five others fined Taka 5,000 for occupying footpaths unlawfully.
DMP officials said such coordinated drives will continue to ensure smooth public movement and maintain discipline on city roads.
