Banani building fire now under control

DHAKA, Apr 15, 2026 (BSS) - The fire broke out in an 11-storey building in the capital's Banani area this evening has been brought under control with around two hours of intense efforts.

According to Fire Service media officer Anwarul Islam, the blaze originated on the 11th floor of the building located beside a local kitchen market at Road No. 12, House No. 44, around 6:30pm today.

Seven firefighting units were deployed to the scene and worked promptly to contain and eventually doused the flames around at 8:15pm. 

Their coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent floors and nearby structures.

No immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed. 

However, several occupants were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and an assessment of the total damage is currently underway.

Fire officials stated that further investigation will be conducted to identify the origin of the blaze and ensure safety compliance in the building.
