SC disposes of 596 cases out of 1,460 through virtual hearings

DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS)- A total of 596 cases were disposed of today out 
of 1,460 heard in both divisions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh through 
virtual proceedings.
 
Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the 
information in a press release.
 
According to the release, a total of 189 cases were heard in the Appellate 
Division, including the Chamber Judges' Courts, with 95 cases disposed of. In 
the High Court Division, 1,271 cases were heard, of which 501 were disposed 
of. Altogether, 1,460 cases were heard and 596 disposed of in both divisions.
 
Earlier, on April 21, the apex court decided to hold virtual proceedings in 
both its Appellate and High Court Divisions on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 
starting from April 22.
 
A notification, signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur 
Rahman Siddiquee, stated that the decision was taken in light of the current 
global energy situation, in line with the Information and Communication 
Technology Use in Courts Act, 2020 (Act No. 11 of 2020), and the practice 
directions issued by the Supreme Court.
 
Courts will continue to operate physically on other working days, it added.
