
DHAKA, May 16, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh is to stage a fair alongside a daylong ceremony to mark the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2026 tomorrow.
The global theme of the day is “Digital lifelines: Strengthening resilience in a connected world” while different countries would observe it highlighting the importance of resilient digital systems to ensure connectivity, service continuity, and inclusive access in a connected world.
Posts and Telecommunications Division (PTD) organised a day-long ceremony to be opened by Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) building.
Prime Minister’s adviser for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Affairs Rehan Asif Asad, and ICT Division Secretary Kazi Anwar Hossain are set to join as special guests the event to be chaired by PTD Secretary Bilquis Jahan Rimi.
BTRC Chairman Major Gen (Retd) Emdadul Bari is scheduled to deliver the welcome address.
PTD officials said they would organize a telecommunication fair as well to mark the day at the same venue.
WTISD is observed annually on May 17, commemorating the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on May 17, 1865.
The day has evolved through international decisions to reflect the growing role of information and communication technologies in society and economy, and is observed globally with thematic focus each year.
