CHATTOGRAM, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Lands and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin today said Bangladeshi nationalism is the most suitable ideology for the country.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a discussion titled "Bangladeshi Nationalism and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman," organised by Political Reporters Unity (PRU) at Kazir Deuri Zia Memorial Museum in the city this afternoon, marking the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. 

The state minister said the family of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman has always played a role of support during critical periods of the country.

He said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman played a significant role in strengthening the country's independence and sovereignty. He also said Ziaur Rahman proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh and restored fundamental rights, including freedom of speech and press, economic freedom, and sovereignty.

Mir Helal further said Shaheed Zia laid the foundation of Bangladesh's economy, particularly in agriculture, the readymade garments sector and manpower export.

PRU Convener Hasan Mukul presided over the programme, while Member Secretary Imran Emi conducted it.

City BNP Joint Convener Shawkat Azam Khawaja shared his views on national unity and economic development. PRU Adviser Aminul Islam Amin also spoke, highlighting Bangladeshi nationalism and the legacy of Ziaur Rahman in shaping the country's future.

Several political leaders and journalists also took part in the discussion.
