
DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - Six more children died of measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, including one confirmed measles patient and five with measles-like symptoms.
During the same period, the number of suspected measles cases nationwide stood at 1,274, while 243 patients were confirmed to have contracted measles, according to a press release sent from the Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the release, the number of suspected measles patients during the last 24 hours was 1,274, while the total number of suspected measles cases from March 15 to May 17 reached 57,846.
An analysis of the press release showed that, in the past 24 hours, the number of suspected measles patients was 633 in Dhaka Division, 69 in Rajshahi Division, 228 in Chattogram Division, 118 in Barishal Division, 41 in Mymensingh Division, 80 in Sylhet Division, 89 in Khulna Division, and 16 in Rangpur Division.
During the last 24 hours, 243 confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 7,767.
So far, 75 people have died from confirmed measles infections. In addition, with two more deaths from suspected measles recorded in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths from suspected measles has risen to 384.
Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of suspected measles infections so far, with 26,124 cases. Of them, 5,441 were confirmed measles cases.
