Fake APS to PM arrested in Savar

MANIKGANJ, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - The Manikganj district Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested a man for impersonating an Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to the Prime Minister. The arrest took place on Thursday night in the Bharibari area of Savar, Manikganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Sarwar Alam confirmed during a press briefing today. 

The suspect has been identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, 46, a resident of Ulail village under Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj district.

According to the SP, Mamun used his personal mobile phone to call the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Director General of the Directorate of Food on May 18, falsely identifying himself as the Prime Minister's APS. Upon learning of the fraudulent calls, the actual APS to the Prime Minister filed a General Diary (GD) with the Dhanmondi Police Station.

During the arrest, police recovered the mobile phone used to make the fraudulent calls, along with a fake journalist ID card, a jeep bearing a "Press" sticker, documents related to the Bangladesh Supreme Court and several photocopied land deeds. 

Police further revealed that Mamun is a habitual offender with six active cheating cases currently pending against him, and he has previously been sentenced to jail in two other cases.
