Two BracU students drown in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, May 22 (BSS)- Two students of BRAC University died after drowning in a pond in the Deobhog area of Munshiganj town here today.

The deceased were identified as Labib Wadi Sopan, 24, son of late Mostakur Rahman of West Deobhog area under Sadar Upazila, and Ajwat Tawseef, 22, a resident of Dhaka.

Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Muhammad Shafiqul Islam said 15 students of sixth-semester from the CSE Department of BRAC University came to Munshiganj to visit their friend Labib Wadi Sopan’s house.

After lunch, the two friends along with some local friends went to take bath in a pond. As Ajwat Tawseef slipped and started drowning, his friend Labib jumped in to rescue him. But, both of them went missing under water.

Later, local people rescued the two and took them to the Sadar General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Mominul Islam confirmed the incident.
