SAVAR, June 2, 2026 (BSS) - Rawhides from sacrificial animals are entering the tanneries at the BSCIC Leather Industrial City in Savar smoothly, with no reported disruption or inconvenience on roads and highways.

According to the BSCIC Leather Industrial City authorities, a total of 563,690 raw hides were transported to the tanneries in Savar by 1,782 trucks from 3 pm on Eid day until 11 pm today, Tuesday.

Of the total, 544,500 were hides of cattle and buffaloes, while 19,190 were hides of goats and sheep.

Under coordinated initiatives by the relevant authorities, tannery workers have been busy unloading hides from trucks and applying salt immediately after their arrival to ensure proper preservation.

Since the afternoon of Eid day, trucks loaded with hides have been arriving one after another at the tanneries from Dhaka and its surrounding areas.

Tannery workers and hide traders have been engaged in salting and processing the raw hides brought from different locations.

Officials expected nearly 10 million animals were sacrificed during this year's Eid-ul-Azha and set a target of preserving between 6 million and 7 million raw hides.

Executive Engineer of the BSCIC Leather Industrial City Engr. Md. Mehrajul Maian said raw hides have so far entered the tanneries without any problems.

He said BSCIC is maintaining round-the-clock monitoring to ensure the smooth entry of rawhides into the tanneries and their proper preservation.
