
DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) – Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli today made a courtesy call on leader of the opposition Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, MP, at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The Swiss envoy was accompanied by Head of Political, Economic and Communication Affairs at the Embassy of Switzerland Alberto Giovannetti and Senior Political, Economic and Press Officer Khaled Chowdhury.
The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, during which the two sides discussed the overall situation in Bangladesh following the national election, as well as issues relating to investment and bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Switzerland, said a press release.
Ambassador Renggli reaffirmed Switzerland’s strong support for Bangladesh and expressed optimism that Swiss investment in the country would increase further in the coming years.
During the discussion, the ambassador stressed the importance of strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in Bangladesh.
The meeting also focused on the Rohingya crisis and human rights issues, highlighting the constructive role that the opposition and civil society can play in addressing such challenges.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman called upon Switzerland to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in areas including green energy and the promotion of bilateral trade and investment.
Opposition Leader’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, and member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee Ali Ahmad Mabrur were also present at the meeting.
