BIWTA director suspended

DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - AKM Arif Uddin, Director of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), has been suspended over allegations of misconduct and corruption. 
The decision was announced in an office order signed by BIWTA Chairman Md. Muhidul Islam here today.

According to the order, video clips circulating on various social media platforms containing allegations of misconduct, corruption and a scandal involving Arif Uddin have tarnished the reputation of the authority.

The order stated that he was suspended under Rule 41(1) of the BIWTA Employees Service Regulations, 1990, for allegedly violating Rules 35(b) and 35(g).
