CHATTOGRAM, July 10, 2026 (BSS)- Chattogram Port Authority has initiated dredging of Canal No 12 to resolve water logging problem of Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport and adjacent areas.

The port authority announced that the dredging of the canal commenced today. This initiative aims to facilitate the swift removal of rainwater from the airport runway and nearby areas.

Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said the port authority is also conducting emergency dredging operations at the mouths of several canals including Rajakhali, Chaktai, Fishery ghat, and Maheshkhal.

By clearing silt and obstructions from the canal mouths, rainwater from various parts of the city will be able to flow more rapidly into the Karnaphuli River, thereby contributing positively to the reduction of water logging, port sources said.
