DHAKA, July 10, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan today directed officials concerned to take immediate measures to drain out stagnant rainwater and mitigate waterlogging in different parts of the capital following heavy rainfall.
After Jumma prayers, the administrator visited the waterlogged areas along the Mirpur-10, Kazipara and Shewrapara Metro Rail corridor to inspect the drainage system and the accumulation of rainwater on both sides of the roads.
During the visit, he instructed DNCC cleaning workers to take prompt action to ensure quick drainage of the stagnant water.
The administrator urged local shopkeepers not to dump waste into drains, saying indiscriminate disposal of garbage obstructs water flow and worsens waterlogging.
Later, he visited Kitchen Market in Mirpur-12, where he expressed dissatisfaction over the unhygienic condition of the market and the indiscriminate dumping of waste.
He immediately convened a meeting with shopkeepers, market committee members and local representatives and directed them to resolve the problems without delay.
The DNCC administrator also instructed the Regional Executive Officer of Zone-2 to take necessary measures to ensure proper cleanliness and waste management in the market.
Officials of the Dhaka North City Corporation accompanied him during the inspection.
