CHATTOGRAM, July 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said four of the country's eight divisions have been severely affected by flooding.

“The residents of these regions are enduring a state of extreme helplessness.  It is now the responsibility of everyone to recognize their humanitarian duty to support those affected by the floods,” he added.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the remarks during a meeting at a community center in Banshkhali after visiting the flood-hit areas of Banshkhali and Satkania this afternoon.

Regarding the relief efforts, he emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami views this not merely as relief but as a gift.

He announced that financial aid of Tk 50,000 will be allocated to the families of each individual who has lost their life in the ongoing floods in the Chattogram division within the next three days.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said it is the constitutional obligation of the government to provide sufficient assistance to the affected individuals from the government resources.

He called for transparency in the distribution of both government and private relief, asserting that the assistance designated for flood victims must reach the genuine victims.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Chattogram Regional Director Maulana Mohammad Shahjahan, Central Working Committee member Shahjahan Chowdhury MP, Chattogram city Ameer Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Chattogram South District Ameer Anwarul Alam Chowdhury, and Maulana Zahirul Islam MP among others were present on the occasion.
