BCB supports FIDE Master Tahsin’s International Chess Journey

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2025 (BSS)—The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will support 
FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia, son of the late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, as 
he embarks on a series of prestigious international chess tournaments. 

Tahsin, this year will play three tournaments -- World Junior Under-20 Chess 
Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro, Asian Zonal Chess Championship in Sri 
Lanka and Grand Masters and International Masters Events in Hungary.

In a statement today, the BCB revealed that they will provide financial 
assistance of Tk. 15.8 lakh to cover the associated costs of his participation in 
these three events.

19-year old Tahsin is a rising star in the chess arena and is committed to 
building upon the legacy of his father. 

In a bid to boost his rating points (current FIDE rating 2323) and also to mount 
a challenge on securing an International Master (IM) title, he will be 
participating in three international chess tournaments.

“Tahsin is a very talented chess player and it is a pleasure to see him following 
in his legendary father’s footsteps. We want to support his quest for further 
success and excellence as he pursues an IM title with an eye on becoming a GM 
in the future. The BCB is proud to be a part of Tahsin’s journey,” BCB president 
Faruque Ahmed said in a statement.

“We feel that this is also a way of expressing our deepest gratitude to GM Ziaur 
Rahman for his contribution to the game of chess and to our nation’s sports,” 
he said.
