DHAKA, May 6, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Women’s Emerging team made a disappointing start to the three-match one-day series against South Africa, losing the first game by five wickets at Bir Shreshtha Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram today.

Put into bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for a meager 179 in 47.5 overs, a total that South African Women’s Emerging team overhauled in 45.5 overs by reaching 180-5.

The Bangladesh Emerging team was formed mostly with the national players but they put a disappointing performance to dig the graveyards.

Sumaiya Akter made some resistance, hitting 52 while captain Sharmin Sultana Supta was dismissed for 34, after failing to convert her start. Opener Ishma Tanjim also got a good start but couldn’t carry on as she was out for 29.

South African new ball bowler Delmari Tucker was the wrecker-in-chief with 3-32 and was ably supported by Luyanda Elihle Nzuza and Ghandi Papama Hlumela Jafta’s two-wicket haul.

Faye Tunnicliffe, however, led the charge in the batting with 89 not out as South African cantered to the victory, albeit some hiccup.  Eliz Mari Maz was unbeaten on 50.

Tunnicliffe and Mari Max added 96-run for the unbeaten sixth wicket after South Africa were reduced to 84-5.

Fariha Trishna and Shorna Akter took two wickets apiece for Bangladesh.
