BSF once-again to launch 'Bangladesh in search of best swimmers'

DHAKA, May 8, 2025 (BSS)-The Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) once again is going to launch a new program titled 'Bangladesh in search of best swimmers'.

The federation last organized this program to bring up swimmers from the grassroots in 2018.

The main aim of the federation is to identify talented, potential and underprivileged swimmers from remote areas of the country and provide them with long-term training. 

In this regard, a press conference was held at the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) auditorium to disclose all the details of the program.

The selection process will be conducted at fifteen venues with swimmers from 64 districts of eight divisions of the country. The program will start from Mirpur Swimming Complex on May 10.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain is expected to inaugurate the selection program as the chief guest.  

The selection process will be conducted in three stages. Initially 600 swimmers will be selected from all over the country. Then, the second stage of selection will be held in Dhaka and the number of swimmers will be reduced from 600 to 100. In the last third stage, 50 swimmers will be selected for the final selection. These final selected swimmers will be provided long-term training for two years.

Swimmers aged 9-11 will participate in the 'A' group. Swimmers aged 12-15 will participate in the 'B' group. Competitors can swim in freestyle and any event of their choice.

In the first phase, selection will be made from each upazila. Then, 600 swimmers will be taken at the district level. In the second phase, there will be 100 swimmers in Dhaka. Then, the training will continue with the 50 swimmers who will be selected finally to provide a long-tier training.

SA Games gold-winning swimmers Shahjahan Ali Rony, Mahfuza Khatun Shila, Jewel Ahmed and the federation's coaches will be involved in this selection process.

Speaking at a press conference, federation general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen was found very much optimistic with this program. 

He said they are going to start the talent hunt program from May 10 and seek everyone's blessings to make it a successful program. 

"With the patronization of Prime Bank, cooperation of the Bangladesh Navy, and especially the tireless efforts of our esteemed president, we are able to take the Talent Hunt program forward. Hopefully, through this talent hunt, we’ll be able to come out of the crisis that is going on in our swimming," Shaheen said.

The budget for the program 'Bangladesh in Search of the Best Swimmer' has been estimated at Taka six crore. Sponsor Prime Bank PLC has already given Taka 50 lakh taka to the federation. Shaheen hopes to get more cooperation from Prime Bank.

Syed Raihan Tarek, head of brand and communication of the sponsoring institution Prime Bank, federation joint secretary Nibedita Das and treasurer Major (retd) Mohammad Atiqur Rahman (retd.) were also present in the press conference.
