Diplomatic badminton, TT tournament begins tomorrow

DHAKA, May 15, 2025 (BSS)-In a significant step towards strengthening cultural diplomacy and international camaraderie, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh is set to host the first-ever diplomatic badminton and table tennis tournament that kicks off tomorrow (Friday) in the capital, said a press release.

The tournament will be held at the International School Dhaka (ISD) premises located in Bashundhara residential area.

Following the overwhelming success of previous diplomatic football and cricket tournaments organized in collaboration with Gameplay Limited, badminton and table tennis have been added for this new edition under the ministry’s diplomatic sports initiative.  

There will be arrangement for table tennis (singles and doubles) and badminton (doubles only).The closing ceremony and prize distribution will be held on Saturday (May 17).

A number of brands have joined this initiative to make it a success. Event partners of this tournament are City Bank and Purbani Group (main sponsors), International School Dhaka (venue partner); LIJIAN (logistics partner), Polar (ice cream partner), Jamuna TV (media partner), Akboria (food partner); Jheel Maesteria (cafe partner) and Aster Pharmacy (jersey partner).

These esteemed partners are playing a vital role in making the tournament a memorable celebration of diplomacy through sport.

The two-day sporting event will bring together over a hundred players representing embassies, high commissions, and international organizations based in the capital.

The tournament aims to foster a spirit of healthy competition, cultural exchange, and interpersonal bonds among members of the diplomatic and international community in Bangladesh.
