International tennis tournament begins in Rajshahi tomorrow

RAJSHAHI, Oct 3, 2025 (BSS) - The 30th Rajshahi International (Under-18) Junior Tennis Championship-2025 is set to begin at the Rajshahi Tennis Complex tomorrow (Saturday).

Organized by Rajshahi Tennis Complex with support from the Bangladesh Tennis Federation, the week-long tournament is financially assisted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and approved by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

A total of 52 players, including 27 from 11 foreign countries, along with 10 coaches and managers, are expected to participate in this international junior tennis event.

Tournament Director and Convener of the Tennis Complex Muhammad Habibur Rahman disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the complex's conference hall today.

Providing an overview of the event, he said all necessary preparations have been completed. "All eight tennis courts have been prepared with fresh paint and floodlights installed to facilitate matches," he added.

He further mentioned that players have started arriving today (Friday), and accommodation arrangements have been made at Parjatan Motel and two other hotels in the city.

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the tournament on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest.

According to the schedule, qualifying round matches will be held on October 4 and 5, while the main draw matches will begin from October 6.

Among others, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Nur Alam Siddiqui, District Controller of Foods Omor Farique, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development ATM Golam Mahbub, District Sports Officer Jahangir Alam, and Tournament Referee Masfia Afrin were present at the press conference.
