LONDON, Oct 6, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Rangers fired manager Russell Martin on Sunday after a dismal 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Falkirk left him with just one win from his first seven league matches in charge.

Martin had to be escorted from Falkirk's stadium by security guards after police dispersed Rangers fans that had tried to block their team bus from leaving.

"Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin," the Glasgow giants said in a statement.

"While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club's expectations."

The club said that assistant coach Matt Gill and first-team coach Mike Williamson would also leave.

Former Southampton boss Martin had endured a nightmare start at Ibrox since being appointed in the close-season.

Rangers were knocked out of Champions League qualifying with a humiliating 9-1 aggregate drubbing by Club Brugge, before losing their first two Europa League games.

They were lucky to escape with a point from Falkirk and sit eighth in the 12-team Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine off bitter city rivals Celtic.
