Young chess players shine against Russian GM

DHAKA, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS)- Russian Chess Grandmaster (GM) Petr Kiriakov participated in a simultaneous chess exhibition with under-14 boys and girls held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation's sports room here today (Friday).

A total of 26 young chess players' under-14 took part in this special event. Among them, Shayan Mehrab, a student of Dhaka Chess Academy, achieved a remarkable victory against the Russian Grandmaster Petr Kiriakov.
 
Additionally, female FIDE Master Warsia Khushbu and Safayet Kibria Azaan managed to draw their games against the Grandmaster. The event served as a valuable experience for the young chess players, giving them the rare opportunity to play against a world-class opponent.

Their impressive performances reflect a promising future for chess in Bangladesh.
