DHAKA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz rued a missed chance to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series against West Indies, saying that their lack of ability to hit the boundary in the super over cost them the game.
Bangladesh were favourite to win the second ODI today after managing 213-9 but West Indies, with the luck and pluck kept them flowing in the game, taking it to the super over while making Bangladesh a part of a tied game for the first time after 813 matches across format.
"It's a new experience (super over) for us, the boys played well," Miraz said after the match. "Mustafizur bowled really well (in the super over) and we would have been happy if we had won."
West Indies captain Shai Hope who denied Bangladesh a victory in the original 100 overs of game with a fighting 67 ball-53 not out, hit the only boundary in the Super Over, helping the side to post 10-1.
Bangladesh had the advantage of the wayward bowling of Akeal Hossain who conceded four runs before bowling any legal delivery.
Still he defended the 10, restricting Bangladesh to 9-1 in the Super Over to guide the side for a moral boosting victory.
Miraz said a boundary in the super over could have changed the things for them.
"In the super over, we needed 11 and one boundary could have changed things but we were unable to do so."
Bangladesh sent their regular openers Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar to chase the total in super over and kept Najmul Hossain Shanto ready for No.3, following regular batting position.
But the popular demand was Rishad Hossain to come for chasing the total because of his whirlwind finish earlier. Rishad blasted 14 ball-39 not out on sluggish pitch to help Bangladesh propel past 200-run mark.
Fresh from his 6-35 in the first match, Rishad also bowled well to take 3-42 and played a huge part to deny West Indies winning the game in the stipulated time.
"It is not easy to bat on this surface and Rishad scored some crucial runs for the team and he has played really well," Miraz said of Rishad without elaborating further.
"Rishad is playing very confidently all the time. We don't have options for that final over and had to bowl Saif Hassan. We believed that if we could get one wicket we can have the game," Miraz remarked.
Miraz also lamented the dropped catch as Nurul Hasan Sohan put down a sitter when West Indies No.11 batter Khary Pierre top-edged a delivery in the last ball. Pierre and Hope managed to take two runs while Sohan shelled the chance and took the game to the super over.
"If we had taken that catch (off the final ball of the game), we would have won. We are looking forward to the next game," he concluded.
