DHAKA, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - The six-nation CAVA Int’l Volleyball tournament, the CAVA Cup Men’s 2025, has begun at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur today (Wednesday).
Md Mahbub ul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
The opening ceremony drew high-profile dignitaries and an electrifying atmosphere. The chief guest, delivered a stirring address, emphasizing Bangladesh’s hospitality and the spirit of regional competition.
Md Mahbub-ul-Alam said: “Bangladesh is a friendly country and I am confident this tournament will be both enjoyable and fiercely competitive. With full participation, we shall stage a successful event.”
In his remarks, the chief guest extended his gratitude to the visiting nations and underscored the value of sport as a conduit for friendship and mutual respect. The statement set the tone for the week ahead, where six countries, hosts Bangladesh, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan, will lock horns for regional honours.
Presiding over the event was Faruque Hassan, president of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF). He described the tournament as “a historic moment for our country” and “an international milestone for our federation”.
He stressed the opportunity to rally behind the national players, and invited everyone to join hands to make the tournament a resounding success. Opening festivities also included a cultural showcase, which entertained the spectators after the formal speeches, and set a lively ambience ahead of the competition proper.
The BVF’s General Secretary Bimal Ghosh Bhulu welcomed all participants and said that the tournament would ignite the ambitions of young players and further propel Bangladesh volleyball forward.
