JOHANNESBURG, April 13, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Kaizer Chiefs beat TS Galaxy 2-0 on Sunday to lead their closest rivals by three points in the race to finish third in the South African Premiership and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Guinea-Bissau striker Flavio Da Silva nodded Chiefs in front after 35 minutes and Glody Lilepo from the Democratic Republic of Congo doubled the lead on 74 minutes in Johannesburg.

The Lilepo goal was the highlight of a match interrupted during the second half by lightning and the temporary failure of the floodlights.

Lilepo gained possession in Chiefs' half, evaded a Galaxy defender and then struck the ball past onrushing Ivorian goalkeeper Ira Tape from an acute angle well outside the box.

Chiefs have 42 points, three more than fourth-placed AmaZulu, and have two matches in hand. However, seven of their remaining eight fixtures are away.

Galaxy have reached the South African FA Cup final against Durban City on May 2. The winners will join the club finishing third in the Confederation Cup.

But the league form of Galaxy in the second half of the season has been disastrous. The loss to Chiefs was their eighth in nine matches and they last won on January 21.

Thabang Mahlangu of Orbit College had a penalty saved by Kagisho Mlambo in a 0-0 draw away to fellow strugglers Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein.

Marumo and Orbit have 19 points each, two more than bottom club Magesi, who have played one match fewer.
