Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, plummeted by 81.3 points to settle at 5,202 points as against 5,284 points in the previous trading session. 

Market turnover also remained subdued, slightly increasing by 2.3% to Taka 5.4 billion from Taka 5.3 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Textile (12.1%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (10.0%) and General Insurance (9.8%) sectors. 

Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Jute (-3.9%), Travel (-3.6%) and IT (-2.9%) exerted the most corrections on the bourse today, while only Life Insurance (0.5%) exhibited marginal gains. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 45 advanced, 310 declined and 42 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a negative zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 111.7 points and 185.3 points, respectively.
