Silk farmers rally held at Boda in Panchagar

PANCHAGAR, March 22, 2025(BSS) – The silk cultivators and farmers conference was held at the Silk Expansion Centre at Sakoya under Boda upazila in the district today.

Over 100 famers from Boda, Panchagar sadar and Debiganj upazilas joined the conference. Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Silk Development Board Dr MA Mannan addressed the rally virtually as the chief guest.

Prior to the conference, a rally was brought out from Sakoya Bazar and paraded different streets.

Chaired by the Deputy Director of Regional Silk Expansion Centre Md Mahbubul Haque, the conference was addressed, among others, by Director of Bangladesh Silk Development Board Emdadul Bari, Project Director Mahbubur Rahman, Monitoring Officer Nasir Uddin and Chairman of Sakoya Union Council Hafizur Rahman.

According to the silk expansion centre, there are 79,600 Mulberry trees under 43 gardens in Panchagar district.

There are 25 Polly houses in the district and 77 people were given equipments for Polly farming during 2024-25 financial year. Over 100 farmers are looking after 17200 eggs and 1323 kilograms of yarn were produced during the time. The current value of this yarn is worth about Taka 65,000.
