RANGPUR, March 27, 2025 (BSS) – Police today arrested Rafiqul Islam Tuhin, president of Mithapukur upazila Awami Swechchhasebak League, in the city in connection with a case filed over the murder of Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Ashikur Rahman.
 
Confirming the arrest to BSS, Mithapukur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique said that Tuhin is an accused in murder cases filed at Mithapukur police station and Rangpur Kotwali police station. He had been absconding since August 5, fearing arrest. 
 
On March 8 last, 12 years after the murder of Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Ashikur Rahman, the deceased's father Aftab Uddin filed a case with Mithapukur police station against 224 Awami League members and 50 to 70 unidentified people, seeking justice. 
 
In this regard, the OC said that there is a case against Tuhin in Mithapukur police station for the murder of Shibir leader Ashikur Rahman and he has been arrested in that case. 
 
“We will produce arrested Rafiqul Islam Tuhin before the court after completing the legal process tomorrow,” the OC added.
