244 distressed persons receive TK 14, 72,000 as Zakat money in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 28, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 244 poor and distressed persons of all seven upazilas of the district received Zakat money of Taka 14,72,200 from Islamic Foundation Bangladesh through district and upazila administration in the last few days till Thursday.

Of the total, Taka 2,53,200 was distributed in Sadar Upazila, Taka 3,96,000 in Sundarganj Upazila, Taka 2,76,000 in Gobindaganj Upazila, Taka 1,98,000 in Sadullapur Upazila, Taka 1,38,000 in Palashbari Upazila, Taka 1,38,000 in Shaghata Upazila, and Taka 72,000 in Fulchhari Upazila.

Each beneficiary received Taka 6,000 from the foundation, said Md. Mirajul Islam, deputy director of Islamic Foundation.

In reply to a query, Mirajul Islam said a total of Taka 18,39,000 was realized as Zakat money from solvent persons of the district. Of this amount, Taka 14,72,200 was disbursed through the administration. 

Like other upazilas, on Thursday, UNO of Sadullapur Upazila, Quazi Mohammad Anik, formally distributed Zakat money at an event held at the upazila auditorium.

Concerned officials and public representatives were present on the occasion.
