Tree fair ends with selling 43,721 saplings in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 4, 2025 (BSS) - The month-long tree fair in Khulna ended on Sunday (August 3) held on the tennis ground of the Khulna Circuit House.

“The fair saw the sale of saplings worth Taka 59.84 cr over 27 days, totaling 43,721 saplings of various species,” Md Fazlul Haque, Forest Ranger of the Sundarbans West Forest Division told BSS.   

The saplings includes, 2,177 timber, 12,619 fruit, 2,581 medicinal, 12,868 ornamental, 10,427 flower plants, and 3,049 saplings of other species of tree. 
 
 Fazlul said  “We had hoped for even higher sales, but the overall response has been satisfactory.”

The closing ceremony of the tree fair was held on the tennis ground of the Khulna Circuit House.

Khulna Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Hossain Shawkat  addressed the closing function as the chief guest.

Additional District Magistrate Dipankar Das presided over the event while  Additional Commissioner of KMP (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan, Conservator of Forests Imran Ahmed, and President of Khulna Nursery Owners Association Md. Badiul Ahmed Royal, among others, addressed. 

At the function, awards were presented to winners of essay and drawing competitions organized marking the fair.
