Durga Puja to be celebrated in 455 mandaps in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, Sept 15, 2025 (BSS) - The biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, Sharodiya Durga Puja, will be celebrated in 455 mandaps across Jhenaidah district this year.

With only a few days left before the festival begins, idol makers at various mandaps are passing busy days preparing for the celebrations.

According to district administration sources and Puja Udjapon Committee, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 109 mandaps in Sadar upazila, 101 in Kaliganj, 46 in Kotchandpur, 125 in Shailkupa, 27 in Harinakundu, and 47 in Maheshpur upazila.

The district administration and law enforcement agencies have taken elaborate preparations to ensure the peaceful and smooth celebration of the festival.

Additional Superintendent of Police Imran Zakaria told BSS that comprehensive security measures are being taken. "Stringent security will be in place at each mandap, and law enforcement personnel will remain vigilant throughout the festivities," he said.

In addition to administrative efforts, representatives from various political parties, including BNP and Jamaat, are also visiting different puja mandaps to inquire about the situation and ensure communal harmony.

President of the Chaklapara Sarbajanin Durga Temple Puja Udjapon Committee, Ranjit Sakhari said that preparations are going on in full swing, and like previous years, the festival will be celebrated in a joyful and festive atmosphere.

Convener of the District Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, Chandan Basu said, "Last-minute preparations are underway across the district. Law enforcement agencies, along with leaders of major political parties, are cooperating with us to ensure a peaceful celebration."

He expressed hope that Durga Puja will be observed peacefully and in harmony, as in previous years.
