RANGPUR, Sept 15, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested one Md Nazrul Islam, 42, a resident of the Sadar Police Station area in Lalmonirhat district, for using fake currency notes in the Dhap area of Rangpur city.
Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ataur Rahman confirmed this incident on Monday afternoon.
The OC said that Nazrul Islam purchased medicine worth Taka 1,800 at New Nabiam Pharmacy in the city's Dhap area on September 13 at night.
He gave two Taka 1,000 notes for payment.
The pharmacy's in-charge Fazle Rabbi found that the two currency notes were fake and asked Nazrul Islam for real currency notes.
Md Nazrul Islam failed to give the real money and kept talking incoherently.
Later, the pharmacy's in-charge Rabbi informed the police and filed a complaint with the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station.
On receiving the complaint, the police conducted a raid at 8:30 pm on Sunday and arrested Nazrul Islam on charges of using fake money.
During the arrest, seven more fake denominations of Taka 1,000 notes were recovered from his pants pocket.
"Later, we produced the arrested person to the court, which sent him to jail," the OC added.
