Food factory fined for selling expired baby food in Cumilla

CUMILLA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - A joint team of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority has fined 'Madina Food Products' Taka one lakh for various irregularities, including selling expired baby food, in the Kadra area under Laksam upazila of the district.

The drive was conducted yesterday by a team led by Md. Kausar Mia, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, Cumilla. During the inspection, the team found that the factory was selling expired baby food, using waste oil for frying, and operating in an unhygienic environment.

For violating several provisions of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, the factory was fined Taka one lakh on the spot.

Officials from the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, including Md. Jewel Mia and sample collector Md. Shakib, were present during the operation.

Speaking to reporters, Assistant Director Md. Kausar Mia said that selling expired food and using recycled oil pose serious threats to public health. "Such irregularities, especially in the production of baby food, will not be tolerated. Drives will continue regularly to ensure food safety," he added.
