Two get 14 years jail for carrying fake currency in Jhalakathi

JHALAKATHI, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here sentenced two people to 14 years in prison each for carrying fake currency in Sadar upazila in 2024.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail, said additional public prosecutor of the court Advocate Akkas Sikder.

The convicts are Nupur Begum, 35, wife of Al Amin Howlader of Gouripur area under Bhandaria upazila in Pirojpur district and Jasim Khalifa, 36, son of Wazed Khalifa, a resident of Ponabalia union in Sadar upazila.

According to prosecution, On February 16, 2024, police arrested the duo from in front of Kabiraj Bari Road of the district town with 196 fake notes of Taka one thousand, 200 notes of Taka 500 and 5 notes of Taka 200, totaling Taka 2 lakh 97 thousand.

On the same day, Sub Inspector Subarna Chandra Dey filed a case with Jhalokati Police Station.

After the investigation, Jhalakathi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Siddiqur Rahman filed a charge sheet under Section 25A of the Special Powers Act, 1974, against the two on June 8, 2024. 

Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Rahibul Islam delivered the verdict after examining 8 witnesses and evidence.
